Once the festive period draws to a close, many people are left wondering what to do with their Christmas tree.

Households in the Teesside area are being encouraged to have their real Christmas trees collected by Teesside Hospice and make a donation to help care for local people suffering from cancer and other life limiting illnesses.

The scheme, supported by Northgate Vehicle Hire, will see 6 vans covering Teesside postcodes from TS1 to TS23 during 5th – 7th January 2018 to collect real trees.

The collected Christmas trees will then be chipped and recycled by Askham Bryan College to create new paths in Stewart Park.

Northgate Vehicle Hire Branch Manager, John Saint said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Teesside Hospice Christmas tree recycling scheme with 6 Northgate Vehicle Hire vans.  I would encourage households to sign up quickly and support Teesside Hospice through this community appeal.”

Teesside Hospice’s Christmas tree collection service has received backing from Stockton Council, Middlesbrough Council and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, with each authority helping to promote the scheme across the local area to their residents.

Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Councillor Bob Cook, said: “We are really pleased to support the Teesside Hospice Christmas Tree recycling campaign. Not only is it a quick and easy way to dispose of your Christmas Tree once Christmas is over and it is time to put away the decorations and dispose of your tree, it also raises money for a charity which supports many of our residents and their families.”

Teesside Hospice Fundraising Manager, Debbie Coulson, said: “We’re really pleased to receive support from our local councils for our Christmas tree collection service.

“The scheme is going well and we would encourage anyone who is worried about disposing of their Christmas tree to register a collection today, not only are you helping to raise vital funds for your local hospice, it’s simple to do and environmentally friendly too!”

To register a collection book online today: www.charityxmastreecollection.com. All trees must be registered by 2nd January 2018 at midday. For further information call Teesside Hospice Fundraising on 01642 811150.
