We really care

We want you to achieve great things for the people we support and for you and your career. Wondering how we show you how much we care? Take a look at some of the way we support you to be the best you can be!

Flexible working

We'll do everything we can to help you find a healthy work-life balance. Depending on the role people can sometimes work flexible work patterns, from home or part-time. We are always happy to explore options to help your work-life balance.

Staff Discounts

Your My Card gives you points to spend in our retail shops and being a member of staff entitles you to 20% discount too (a small number of exclusions apply). With your work email address you can also apply for some Health Service Discount schemes saving lots of money on many high street names.

Employee Assistance Programme

Ensures you have unlimited access to a 24-hour free, confidential telephone helpline. This service gives you free advice on a wide variety of issues such as legal advice, information and where appropriate, face-to-face counselling.

Tools for the job

If you spend a lot of time away from your office, we'll provide you with the tools required to help make your life a little easier. We also want to create spaces for you to relax in when you need a moment for yourself. We have recently upgraded our staff facilities across our main site and have plans to roll out across others too.

Free Parking

It’s a simple one but if you have ever worked somewhere that parking is a problem you will really appreciate this one. We offer free parking at our main site and at our income generations hub, we try our best to make arrangements for our retail staff but unfortunately at some town centre locations we cant offer this.

On-site Tea Room

At our hospice site, we have a public Tea Room which provides our visitors and staff with somewhere to relax and enjoy lunch and a cuppa whilst supporting the hospice.

Volunteer Expenses

We offer coverage of expenses for your travel to your volunteering location.
Pay

We benchmark our salaries externally against the Public and the 'Not for Profit' sectors and offer a competitive salary to attract and retain great people. We don't offer bonuses, not because we don't want to, but because the money we generate goes back into our vital work.

Annual leave

When you join us, you'll receive 36 days' holiday a year (including public holidays). This increases to 37 days after five years, and 41 days after 10 years. Your annual leave is pro-rata if you work part-time.

Sickness pay

If you become ill, you’re entitled to one month at full pay after 6 months, one month full pay and one month half pay after 12 months and two month’s full pay and two months half pay after 2 years.

Pension scheme
We top up your pension fund by matching any contributions you make up to 5% of your basic salary. That means if you contribute 5% of your salary then we will contribute 5% to your pension fund too. We work in partnership with Aegon so you can follow the value of your investments too.
Family Friendly policies

We have a number of policies to provide support when you need it in your family life. We have policies covering Adoption Leave, Paternity Leave, Parental Leave and Shared Parental Leave.
Team Teesside awards

We love that you love your job so every year we recognise the dedication and commitment of our staff and volunteers. We have a formal recognition programme for 5, 10, 15, 20 & 25 years’ service along with a summer social Team Teesside get together. We’re a social bunch who know how important it is to spend quality time with people you value & respect.

Team Teesside Social & Wellbeing Group

We want our people to be supported as much as possible and have formed a group of representatives from across the organisation to consider social events and wellbeing activities that will help bring our people together.

Press coverage

Many of our people across a variety of roles, from our nurses to our handy man, are recognised for their skills and knowledge and asked to contribute to the media. Last year we appeared in local and national print, broadcast and online media. It's a great way to receive recognition of our work and expertise – and also for our people.

Team recognition

Managers and peers will use their own judgement and discretion as to how best to recognise the work of individuals and the wider team. They'll use a variety of different approaches which is right for them, their team and the charity including our new kudos tool that is guaranteed to make you smile.

Engagement through conservation

We continuously recognise people and projects for their outstanding achievement in developing our services for local people. We celebrate these to the wider team through our monthly Team Teesside newsletter and through our external magazine. You could be on the front cover next!
Training & development

We have a user friendly learning management system that keeps all our people up to date with the training required for their role. The system also offers hundreds of additional modules which you can elect to complete if required from honing your Excel spreadsheet skills to Dementia Awareness and much more. You'll receive full training to make sure you can be the best you can be in your role and if any additional training is required, we are always happy to discuss the options and support our people. We offer a regular Education Programme with guest speakers on wide ranging topics to support Continuous Professional Development but also to provide information for all our people.
As users of the Disability Confident Scheme, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the vacancyies.
Teesside Hospice have met the requirements from the assessment board of The Volunteering Academy to receive the Volunteering Academy Quality Award.

This means we're a recognised as a volunteer-accredited organisation who "offers excellent support to volunteers and are confident that anyone choosing to volunteer with them will have a good experience and an enjoyable and varied volunteer journey."
