If you’re living with a terminal illness and need help with symptom management or mental and social support with your illness, we are here for you.

Previously known as Day Hospice, our Wellbeing Centre is a friendly and relaxed setting, where we can provide flexible care to suit your needs, through telephone support, video links and consultations.

The Wellbeing Centre at Teesside Hospice is here to   support you and your family. The new programmes are tailored to the individual and designed with you in mind. 

We know that having the support you need can help you stay independent, improve symptoms and make a difference in enabling you to feel more confident to have control in your own care. 

All the programmes are flexible to allow you the right support when you need it most. We offer a range of programmes to help you feel better and do more. We work alongside your GP or healthcare professional to help identify the best option for you. 

You can be referred to this service by your GP, Consultant, Macmillan Nurse and Hospital or Community professional, or alternatively attend the drop-in service.

A social group for patients who have attended the wellbeing centre groups, would still like the connection and support from peers. Ran by volunteers, craft activities.
A 10-week session that looks at all aspects of photography from taking the image to enjoying the photograph. No need for a fancy camera, can use smart phone. Suitable for anyone with an interest in photography.
A nurse led group for people living with a life limiting illness in the Redcar locality, session includes creative activity, gentle hand/arm or foot/leg massage. 10-week programme. Held in 25K community Hub, Ayton Road, Redcar
We offer Auricular ‘Ear’ Acupuncture Group for patients who are suffering with symptoms of Stress & Anxiety or Hot Sweats while going through treatment or suffering with illness. Alongside some relaxation exercises. 10-week programme.
For people with respiratory disease, experiencing breathlessness and anxiety related to this. Including some chair based exercise and relaxation/distraction techniques, this is a 4-week programme.
This group is delivered by our colleagues at Impact on Teesside, this groups runs for 7 weeks, sessions last for 2.5 hours. The ‘HOPE course’ (Help Overcoming Problems Effectively) helps people manage the day-to-day impact cancer has on their lives and rediscover their strengths after treatment ends. HOPE is an interactive, group based, self-management support course.
This session is led by our creative therapist and volunteer, this session is set up like a social club, with activities such as dominos, card games, table skittles, quiz etc. 10-week programme.
This session is led by our very experienced complementary therapists, include 4 weeks of practical information about complementary therapies, the benefits and self-help techniques to use at home, including aroma sticks, relaxation, acupuncture, acupressure, reflexology, Indian head massage and HEARTS process. The final week will be held in Bannatynes health Club Ingleby Barwick, with use of the relaxation room in the Spa.
A 10-week programme led by our creative therapist, planting pots, seeds, hanging baskets, making bird feeders, session can be held both inside and outside dependent upon the weather, suitable for all abilities.
An 8 week programme is delivered by our AHP colleagues, helping to address any practical problems you may be facing with your illness, sessions include anxiety management, nutrition advice, financial support, fatigue management, exercise and breathless management, information and support with creating lasting memories. Alongside gentle exercise.
A nurse led session for people who are living with a life limiting illness, the session includes a creative activity and use of relaxation room in the SPA – 10-week programme.
10-week programme ran by our creative therapist, utilising all aspects of creative activities. Creative therapy is not about a person’s artistic ability, it is about using arts and crafts to improve wellbeing, often helpful for a distraction technique for symptoms such as anxiety, also to help improve social isolation.
8-week programme for people who are interested in using creative writing to express their thoughts and feelings.
A 10-week programme led by our therapists focusing on relaxation techniques and mindfulness. Discussing and practising different relaxation techniques, including mindful breathing, body scan, progressive muscle relaxation, visualisations, colour breathing, 4 way breathing. This session is currently delivered via Zoom.
A social group for patients who have been discharged from the service. This is a chat group for patients living with a terminal illness. The group meets to share experiences, thoughts, and advice about coping at this time.
Complementary therapies are not an alternative to conventional medical treatments, they work alongside them to promote feelings of relaxation and wellbeing. They can also help with emotional and physical symptoms, such as reducing stress and tension, ease aches and pains, help to lift mood, reduce anxiety and help improve sleep.

We offer a range of complementary therapies. Aromatherapy, auricular acupuncture, massage, Indian head massage, reflexology, relaxation techniques, reflexology lymph drainage, Reiki and HEARTS (Hands on, Empathy, Aromas, Relaxation, Textures, Sounds) process

It is well recognised that trying new creative activities is particularly good for our emotions and wellbeing. Getting hands on with something new and creative is important regardless of skill level, it is the taking part that counts.

Such activities can be used as a distraction tool – using creativity to cope with pain for example or other difficult symptoms.
Creativity can give us the mind space to reassess problems in our lives and make plans, it can be a means of self-development to face challenges by building up self-esteem and confidence.
Connecting with people who share similar interests, promoting peer support.
