Paula and Simon Lazar from Linthorpe, recently renewed their wedding vows at Teesside Hospice, where Paula is a Day Care patient. The couple have 2 children, Matthew and Amelia, and have been married for 6 years.

Paula, 52, was diagnosed with breast cancer 8 years ago. Last May, she received the devastating news that the cancer had spread and after a rough ride with her treatment plan, she is now in the safe hands of Teesside Hospice receiving specialist care and support for her illness.

Following the change in prognosis, she and her husband Simon, 46, renewed their wedding vows on Friday 12th May in a celebratory ceremony organised by a team of dedicated volunteers at Teesside Hospice.

She said “All of this has been a huge strain on the family, particularly my husband. It’s at times like this that you evaluate what’s most important in life and I can’t think of anything more apt than renewing my vows with Simon, as a way of bringing us and the family back together.”

Paula added “This has all been made possible by my friends and volunteers at the Hospice. From making crafts and bunting, to helping me practice my hair and make-up, it’s been a real team effort and I am so grateful to Julie and everyone else who has contributed in making this dream come true.”

Chaplain, Sarah Ramsden lead the ceremony at Teesside Hospice with around 30-40 family and friends attending.
