In celebration of her 60th birthday, Claire Omoni embarked on an incredible challenge, the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, a six-day, 115 km journey from Portugal to Spain!

Claire’s fundraiser for the hospice holds a special place in her heart as she raised funds in memory of her family members and her friend who have been cared for at the hospice over the years. Through her efforts, she raised an incredible £2,125 to support the running of Teesside Hospice and our services!

“My link to the hospice goes back to its inception. My late mother was a nurse at Carter Bequest hospital when the hospice started there. The hospital staff started fundraising and my husband took part in the Great North run in the early 1980s to raise some money!

The hospice has cared for a couple of family members over the years and at the time of my last challenge a friend of mine was an inpatient. I could see first hand what a difference the hospice care made to her.

During my challenge we met amazing people on our walk each with their own story and reason for walking. It was an experience I will never forget and I’m so glad that the hospice will benefit from it.”

We’re incredibly grateful for Claire’s ongoing support and for everyone who joined her in her fundraiser.

Cyril is one of our Wellbeing Centre patients and we sat down with him to listen to his experience at the Wellbeing Groups and sessions here at Teesside Hospice. "My condition is that I’ve lost my left leg, and I’m unable to walk, which has closed a lot of things down in my life. But the main thing is, groups like this still allow me to get out there and try new things.”
