Teesside Hospice is offering a Christmas tree collection service, for the second year running, to raise funds to help care for local people suffering from cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

Households across the Teesside area are being encouraged to go green this Christmas and help to support their local hospice with the fundraising initiative, which proved to be a huge success last year with 800 Christmas trees collected and over £7,500 raised for the local charity.

The scheme, supported by Northgate Vehicle Hire, will see 6 vans covering Teesside postcodes from TS1 to TS23 collecting real Christmas trees in return for a donation to the hospice.

Northgate Vehicle Hire Branch Manager, John Saint said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Teesside Hospice Christmas tree recycling scheme again this year. It was great to support the community initiative last year with our vehicles being used to help load and dispose of the trees. We are looking forward to being involved again this year. We wish the scheme lots of success and hope the community get behind it again.”

The collection, which is run entirely by volunteers will take place during the 5th – 7th January 2019.

The collected Christmas trees will then be chipped and recycled by Askham Bryan College and used within the paddocks, the walled gardens and kitchen gardens to create new paths in Stewart Park.

Askham Bryan College Director of Stewart Park, Nick Barnes said: “The Teesside Hospice Christmas Tree recycling scheme was fantastic to be part of last year. Stewart Park, and the new college site, directly benefited from the chipped trees and we have been able to create paths and use the chippings within the bedding areas throughout the walled gardens and kitchen gardens, really enhancing the look of these areas. We are delighted to be involved with the scheme again this year, it’s a fantastic initiative.”

Kim Bradley, Senior Community and Events Fundraiser at Teesside Hospice said: “Our Christmas tree recycling scheme is the simplest, greenest and most charitable way to get rid of your Christmas tree after the festive period."

“Let us take away the stress of disposing of your Christmas tree and help us to raise vital funds for Teesside Hospice. Donations are crucial to the success of this event and to ensuring that we can continue to provide our vital care.”
