It's #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

At Teesside Hospice, we understand how vital support is for those affected by breast cancer. Our friendly team is here to provide compassionate care, emotional support, and guidance during this tough journey.

Checking your breasts can help discover breast cancer early. It’s important to recognise when something’s not right.

Ruth, one of our wellbeing patients shared her story with us on her breast cancer diagnosis and why it's so important to check your breasts for early treatment:

“My name is Ruth, I am 65 years old and unfortunately I was diagnosed with an unusual form of breast cancer in March 2021. It came completely out of the blue, and I would really recommend that anybody who gets a letter inviting you to your mammogram, to go. It’s a great way of getting early treatment, and my experience tells me that an early treatment with cancer can make a huge difference.

When I got the diagnosis, I didn’t quite believe it, I was shocked. I always assumed people got cancer because of smoking, poor diet and drinking, none of which I do. I now come to Teesside Hospice’s wellbeing group which adds a great quality to my life, giving me the opportunity to share experiences with others who are going through a similar thing to me and support each other.”

Together let's raise awareness and show our support to people living with breast cancer just like Ruth.

Cyril is one of our Wellbeing Centre patients and we sat down with him to listen to his experience at the Wellbeing Groups and sessions here at Teesside Hospice. "My condition is that I’ve lost my left leg, and I’m unable to walk, which has closed a lot of things down in my life. But the main thing is, groups like this still allow me to get out there and try new things.”
