Read on to see what our retail volunteer, Jill has to say about why she loves volunteering at the Teesside Hospice Guisborough shop.
“My name’s Jill, and I’ve been volunteering at the Teesside Hospice Guisborough shop for over 7 years now! I love volunteering here because there’s all sorts of things that make it nice, and feeling like you’re part of the team is the biggest one for me.
I decided to volunteer at the Guisborough retail shop because I’m a huge charity shop junkie, and I loved the warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Recently, I went to a funeral where the donations raised were going to Teesside Hospice, and it made me realise what I’m actually raising money for. It made me realise how valuable the time and work that I’m giving is, and how I’m a part of a much wider team that’s working together to support the hospice.
Being retired can be a lonely thing, but volunteering here has given me friends for life.”
Ashleigh Trotter, Head of Retail said “This Hospice Care Week is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of our retail stores, to generate income to help pay for our care services. We are forever grateful for the time and effort of our volunteer team; all our shops are always on the lookout for anyone with any spare time to come and volunteer in our stores. Our stores play a vital part in the Teesside community providing a place to buy and donate preloved items which both help the environment and those that use our care services.”
We are seeking compassionate people just like Jill to join our volunteer team. Visit our volunteering page to find out how you can make a difference to those living with a terminal illness.
