Teesside Hospice’s Annual Christmas Tree Recycling Campaign Returns

We all love a real tree until the time comes to dispose of it after Christmas. Instead of having all those Christmas tree needles in the back of your car, why not contribute to supporting Teesside Hospice to raise over £30,000 for those living with a terminal illness in Teesside.

In 2024, our team of staff and volunteers saved 35,408kg in CO2 emissions from a total of 2,213 Christmas Trees across Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar and Cleveland. This is around 16kg per tree. This year, we are forecasting to save 48,000kg in CO2 emissions, aspiring to collect 3,000 Christmas Trees from households. But we can’t do it without the public, and we need their help.

You can register your tree by visit https://just-helping.org.uk/register-tree/. By making a donation through registering your tree by midnight on Sunday 5th January 2025, we will collect it between 9-12th January 2025. Your donation will contribute to creating memories for those who could be facing their last Christmas with Teesside Hospice this year. To ensure they can be comfortable, when spending their final moments with their family and loved ones.

So how does it work? In association with Just Helping, our friendly team of Christmas elves will collect your tree from your home, and will take care of your tree in the most environmentally responsible way, meaning you don’t need to make a trip to the tip or spend time vacuuming needles out of your car.

If we cannot see your tree, we will leave a calling card to let you know we visited.

Kindly sponsored by Amentum, all Christmas trees will be chipped and recycled, reducing carbon emissions. The collection is run entirely by our wonderful volunteers and covers Teesside postcodes from TS1 to TS23. Donations are crucial to the success of this event and to ensure that we can continue to provide vital care to our patients and their families.

Here’s how YOU can be part of the action and help Teesside Hospice this January:

1. Sponsor a Van for £150 per Day

For just £150, you can sponsor a van and help us hit the road to collect Christmas trees across Teesside!

Each van collects over 100 trees a day, and those 100 trees = over £2,000 in donations! It’s a win-win: your £150 goes further than you'd ever imagine, helping us collect trees, raise funds, and spread holiday cheer (and we promise we’ll make it fun!).

PLUS – your support is helping the planet too! Recycling 3,000 trees saves 10,000 kg of CO2, which is like taking 5 cars off the road for an entire year.

2. Volunteer and Join the Collection Team

Want to get your hands a little greener? We’re looking for volunteers to help us collect trees on January 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th. It’s a chance to roll up your sleeves, meet fellow tree-lovers, and have a laugh while making a real difference. No experience needed – just bring your enthusiasm and a big smile!

3. Provide Your Own Van (and Become a Hero)

Got a van? We need you! Help us cover more ground by bringing your vehicle along for the ride. We’ll supply the route, you bring the wheels (and some festive spirit). It’s a great way to join the Treecycle crew and help us collect even more trees.
Thank you. We really appreciate your support, we couldn't do any of this without you.
